NSCC Program

Applied Geomatics Research

The Applied Geomatics Research program is of interest to students who are planning to do research in the future, or who want careers in research. It is an advanced diploma program emphasizing the application of the three core geomatics technologies (Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing and Global Positioning Systems) in a research project environment. You learn how to integrate and employ these core skills to analyze spatial data, support resource decisions and address a variety of environmental issues in Atlantic Canada. NSCC takes a hands-on approach to learning so graduates develop real-world skills and experience. In the past, projects have included micro climate and grape growing in Annapolis County, LiDAR applications for hydrogeology and software development for GIS applications.  The NSCC Annapolis Valley Campus – Middleton – is the only campus in the province to offer this program and has earned a strong reputation for its focused approach to geomatics training. Students benefit from constant exposure to all GIS disciplines.  Small class size guarantees personal attention from faculty and assures that  software and equipment are always up to date.
